From Zero Tolerance to Zero Tolerance

“Zero tolerance” announced Dr. Manmohan Singh, Indian Prime Minister, standing tall on a temporary dais in the fortified Sheri-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, the audience, ferried from far flung areas with a couple of hundred rupees usually changing hands, cheered.
That was a couple of years ago, cut to June 2010 seven innocent people killed within a span of fifteen days, most of them under the age of 18, the age at which an individual can vote according to Indian Constitution.   Tufail Matoo, Rafiq Bangroo, Javaid Malla,Shakeel Ahmad Ganai, Firdous Ahmad Kakroo,Tajamul Bashir and a 9 year old (full details not available as yet) whose families would never get to see them again. Innocent, all of them, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah says that “attakcing” CRPF paramilitary troopers is suicidal, but can he explain how can young boys attack highly trained CRPF  paramilitary troopers, equipped with most sophisticated equipments.
Where blood flowed like waters of Vyeth;
Where men are increasingly nervous;
Where women weep with menacing madness;
Where the young roam with languished minds
Where girls grow slow under depression.
Where the abdomen ofa pregnant woman is cut by caliban.

Lt. Gen. B.S. Jaswal, Chief of  the Indian Army’s Northern Command,  a couple of weeks ago  declared AFSPA ( Armed Forces Special Powers Act) a holy book, this Act gives them God-like powers, detaining anyone for years without trail, killing anyone on mere suspicion. This Act has been widely criticized by international humanitarian agencies, but is still in vogue in J&K and some parts of north-east India.
The fake Machil encounter, where two people were “bought” by the army for couple of thousand rupees and killed in a staged encounter, has left many questions unanswered. Does all this occur just for promotions and perks?
Again two porters working with the army, allegedly killed in cross border firing, were found to be shot from a very close range.
About 150 innocent people have been murdered since the summer of 2008, none of them carried guns, bombs or knives, peaceful protestors who got bullets.
Today was a day of uncontrolled violence unleashed by CRPF and other security agencies. Attacks on unarmed civilians in Sopore, Baramulla, Lawaypora show how ghastly these ‘protectors of people’ can act.
Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram says  CRPF has every right to act in self defence, but can anyone justify why a highly trained trooper killed a nine year of boy? What kind of self defence is this? Yesterday State Ali Mohammad Sagar confessed that the state government has no control over the CRPF and other security agencies. If they have no control over these “beasts”, then it is better for the government to side down.
These situation of people of Kashmir is worse than Auschwitz, atleast in Auschwitz Jews were killed in gas chambers, dying a peaceful death.
Today was a day of restrictions, electricity and telephone connections were snapped, and still mobile phones networks are jammed in North Kashmir.
Mr. Prime Minister I now understood what your “Zero Tolerance” means.
