Mushaal Mullick arrived yesterday, amidst great fanfare someone declared, “We are proud to have a Pakistani daughter-in-law”, but I am not “proud”. Why should I be proud or even happy?
Mushaal on her website says that she began water color painting at the age of six and then moved to other mediums like pastel, charcoal and glass painting. Her inspiration stems from the raw beauty of feminine mystique, and abject poverty.
Raw beauty she unveils by painting unclothed women, the money she gets from these nudes is used for “women development”. This may sound quite conflicting; her paintings are no less than pornography, she sells pornography and yet talks about “women development”. Sex sells so does pornography. Maybe she has completely misunderstood the value and status of women in Islam. The sad fact is that West has always given recognition to Muslims who they think will harm Islam the most, so it is natural for an artist to get recognition for her pornographic work, no matter how cheap they may look.
It might be a private affair for Yaseen Mallik, but a leader doesn’t have a private life. I am not criticizing him for marrying a Pakistani, but how nice would it had been if he would have taken an initiative and married any girl of Kunanposhpora. Forty innocent women were brutally gang-raped by Indian forces; it would have heightened Malik’s stature and made him the tallest Kashmiri leader.
It seems like marrying a foreigner acts as a seal of being a Kashmiri leader, Mirwaiz and Sajad Lone too married foreigners.
Mushaal arrived yesterday and maybe she will continue her “good” work, helping in women development, maybe we may soon see some nudes of Kashmiri Muslim women.
Only time will tell and for the one, who was proud of a Pakistani daughter-in-law may visit her website.
