Why did they shoot him?

In full media glare, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Safdar Samoon, on Thursday shot at Greater Kashmir lensman, Amaan Farooq in broad daylight at Lal Chowk here. Amaan sustained bullet injury in his leg.
The attack on GK staffer occurred some two hours after the Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda announced that the 22-hour gun battle in the area had ended and Amaan was discharging his professional duties. The Inspector General of Police, Farooq Ahmed has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

ATTACK ON FOURTH ESTATE
The incident occurred around 2:25 pm when Amaan alongwith media men from other news organizations were taking pictures at the encounter spot. Police had allowed the team to the spot.
Amaan and other lensman went-up the building adjacent to the Punjab Hotel gutted in the encounter to take pictures.
Suddenly, the Dy SP totting a pistol, escorted by his subordinates arrived at the spot.
“Close this bloody journalism business and get lost,” the official shouted at the lensman. While some of the journalists fearing his fury rushed out of the building, four of them: Omar Ganie, Yawar Nazir, Imran and Amaan, kept discharging their professional duties.
By now the Dy SP, who is on probation with SSP City’s office, climbed the staircase only to slap Yawar who came first in his way.
“He slapped our colleague Yawar on his face while we were performing professional duties,” said Omar Ganie.
Finding the DSP totting the gun, Amaan found it worth a frame and at once caught the official in his camera.
On this, as per Amaan’s colleagues, the official got further annoyed and abused the media team threatening them to leave the spot without any delay.
“On this we hurriedly came down,” said one of them.
But for Amaan, the worst had yet to come. In a few moments the DSP also rushed down and started following them. And after a few steps, he cocked his pistol and fired at Amaan.
“We were busy photographing the scene when suddenly we heard a gunshot and saw Amaan lying on the ground in a pool of blood. We asked the officer, ‘Why did you shoot him?’ and he said, ‘No, I didn’t’ and ran away,” said Imran.
Somehow, this assault was filmed in video footage, which shows Amaan walking a few steps ahead of the DSP. The official is seen cocking his pistol and Amaan felling down only to be picked up by his colleagues to be rushed to hospital with bullet injury.

AMAAN SPEAKS ON STRETCHER
“He deliberately fired at me.” This is what wounded Amaan had to say about the DSP as he was lying on a stretcher at SHMS hospital.
“Yes. Yes. Amaan was deliberately targeted by the DSP and we all are witness to it,” said his colleagues while consoling Amaan as he cried in pain while undergoing X-Ray.
Aman couldn’t speak much but whispered: “He wanted to kill me.”
After sometime, Amaan was referred to B&J Hospital, Barzulla where doctors were surprised to see him in a condition that though bullet hit, he was safe.
“In all my career, I haven’t since such a miraculous escape that a bullet touches a man and leaves without causing damage. For that matter he’s lucky and can go home,” said doctor who attended Amaan.
The moment Amaan was taken to his Habba Kadal residence locals took to streets and staged a protest against the attack on the local journalist.
