Selection Criteria for Scholarships to Learn Chinese Language

Category-A (Interpreters)

Number of awards in this category is 100

Eligibility Criteria is as under

Domicile: Any district of Punjab;

Age: 22-35 years on the last date fixed for application submission;

Education: Minimum of 14 years of schooling, in any subject, from an accredited institution with at least 1st division (or 3.0/4.0 CGPA) in the last degree and no 3rd division in the whole career.

Scholarship:

Provisionally selected awardees will be supported for the language studies (of 2 to 3 weeks) at a local institution;

After final selection, based on the results of the locally completed course, the awardees will be supported for Chinese Language Studies at some accredited institution in China for a period of up to two years;

Successful completion of studies will mean passing HSK-5 with a score of 210 or above.

Category-B (Chinese Literate Professionals)

Number of awards in this category is 200
Eligibility Criteria
Domicile: Any district of Punjab;
Age: 22-40 years on the last date fixed for application submission;
Education: Minimum of a BS (Hons.) or equivalent degree in Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Law, Agriculture, Textile, Energy, Food Technology, Geology/Geophysics, Medicine, Business, Commerce, Economics, Information Technology, Telecommunications or Electronics from an accredited institution with at least 1st division (or 3.0/4.0 CGPA) in the last degree and no 3rd division in the whole career.
Scholarship:
Provisionally selected awardees will be supported for the language studies (of 2 to 3 weeks) at a local institution;
After final selection, based on the results of the locally completed course, the awardees will be supported for Chinese Language Studies at some accredited institution in China for a period of up to 12 months;
Successful completion of studies will mean passing HSK-4 with a score of 200 or higher.

Selection Procedure

As per the announced and practiced policy of the Chief Minister the selection will be made on merit and only most capable applicants will be awarded the scholarships. In order to ensure meritorious selection following procedure will be adopted.

Step 01: The received applications will be scrutinized against the stated/approved eligibility criteria and a list of eligible candidates will be prepared.

Step 02: In case this list of applicants is too long (more than twice the available number of awards) a written test may be conducted to shortlist the candidates.

Step 03: The shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed, by an interview panel, to judge the suitability, motivation and preparedness of each candidate for the proposed study and a provisional selection for the award will be made.

Step 04: The provisionally selected candidates will then be placed at various Chinese Language Institutes across Punjab to complete a 2 to 3 weeks Chinese Language Course.

Step 05: Those who will earn a 60% or better score in the locally completed Chinese Language Course will be eligible for the offer of a final award and will be allowed to proceed to China for the studies in their respective categories.

Step 06: In case the number of eligible candidates, as determined in Step 05, exceeded the total number of available awards then the final selection will be made on the basis of score obtained in the Chinese Language Course mentioned in the Step 04.

Step 07: Every awardee will have to furnish a surety bond for working in Pakistan for at least three years after successful completion of the Chinese Language Studies failing which all the expenses incurred will be recovered along with penalty equal to 20% of these expenses.
